Location Chard area Job type Temp - Perm Working hours Monday to Friday, day shift Salary - £12.77 Key Responsibilities: Operate and monitor production machinery and equipment used for cheese making, cutting, and packaging. Measure, weigh, and prepare ingredients for cheese production according to specifications. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of workstations and equipment in accordance with food safety regulations. Follow health and safety guidelines, always ensuring safe working practices. Report any hazards or safety concerns. Maintain accurate records of production processes, including any issues encountered during production. Work effectively with other team members to meet production targets and deadlines. Requirements Ability to focus on maintaining product quality and consistency. Ability to perform manual tasks, such as lifting, standing for extended periods, and handling production equipment. Capable of working effectively with others in a fast-paced environment. Competence in using production equipment and technology. CNC Recruitment is seeking an enthusiastic Sawmill Supply Team Leader to join our prestigious client in South Petherton, Somerset - oak timber manufacturer. Location: Lopen, near South Petherton, Somerset Reports to: Mid-Management Department: Sawmill Operations Type: Full-Time/Permanent Hours: 7:00am 4:00pm (Monday to Friday, with two 30-minute breaks) Salary: £29,000 £33,250 per annum (depending on experience) The Role The Sawmill Supply Team Leader will be responsible for managing the flow of timber from our stock to the sawmill, ensuring the sawyers are supplied with the correct materials to meet production schedules efficiently and effectively. This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, solid timber knowledge, and the confidence to make informed decisions about stock selection and usage. The Team Leader will need to ensure that sawyers follow instructions and make the best use of the timber provided, even when the material is challenging to work with. You will oversee a small team (4 in the sawmill and 1 in the picking & packing department) and play a crucial part in ensuring our sawmill runs smoothly and profitably. Key Responsibilities Manage and coordinate the supply of timber from stock to the sawmill. Make informed decisions on timber selection based on quality, usability, and efficiency. Supervise and support sawmill and stock-handling staff to ensure smooth daily operations. Maintain authority and clear communication with sawyers regarding stock use and cutting priorities. Operate forklifts to move timber between storage areas and the sawmill (training can be provided). Monitor stock levels and communicate with management regarding timber availability and requirements. Support the picking and packing team as required to meet production and customer needs. Report performance, issues, and progress to mid-management regularly. Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives. Requirements Skills & Experience essential: Proven experience in the timber industry (preferably oak). Strong leadership and team management skills. Good understanding of timber types, grades, and cutting requirements. Confident decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Forklift operation experience (or willingness to be trained). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong focus on quality, efficiency, and safety. Skills & Experience Desirable: Previous experience in a sawmill, timber yard, or related environment. Knowledge of sawmill machinery and workflow processes. Ability to read cutting lists and interpret production requirements. Personal Attributes Practical and hands-on approach. Respected team player who can also command authority when needed.
