We have a contract vacancy for an experienced herdsperson on an 1100-acre family farm near Shaftsbury. This herd of 600 crossbred cows, split equally between autumn and spring calvers, giving 6,800 litres with high components and are milked via a 30 x 60 swing over herringbone parlour with ACR'S and in parlour feeders. Extensive grazing is practiced when possible with supplementary feed supplied. During winter months a full TMR is supplied while cows are housed in cubicle sheds with tractor scraping. The appointed person will be required to cover most milkings to a very high standard, with plenty of assistance as there are always two people milking.
