Job Description

Overview

Due to a retirement we require a new experienced vehicle technician to join our team of 8. With 5 work bays, an MOT Lane and dedicated service desk staff we are one of the largest garages in the Lake District National Park. We work on a large number of private cars, light commercials and our own PSV vehicles in our workshop.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical vehicle knowledge, with experience in high standards of quality and safety The successful candidate will be required to deliver diagnose and repairing diverse mechanical issues on customers' vehicles, including AC and electrical problems. Highly organised professional who takes pride in their work and can perform various customer service duties as required throughout the day.

There is room to grow at Mountain Goat Garage as you can develop further if you wish to become a MOT Tester or specialise in a certain type of vehicle.

Requirements

Garage Operations (Day to Day)

Knowledge of motor vehicles and how to perform repair and maintenance tasks. Diagnose vehicles based on observational and mechanical testing as well as information provided by the customer.

Verbal communication skills for explaining vehicle work to customers in accessible terms and discussing vehicle cases with other team members.

Customer service skills for positive interactions with vehicle owners.

Manual dexterity for working on vehicle parts, including sensitive sensors and electronic components.

Working with our service desk to get the right outcome for the customer. Mathematical skills for calculating time and quotes, ordering and obtaining customer authorisation if required before commencing work.

Repair vehicles based on the diagnosed issues and repair estimate.

Test drive vehicles after repairs are complete to ensure mechanical soundness and to determine whether any other problems exist.

Describe vehicle's condition to customer and answer any follow-up questions

Administration

Support the Garage Administrator with processing invoices, purchase orders, and cost tracking.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle service and maintenance records.

Assist with warranty claims and external supplier communication.

Ensure all garage paperwork is filed, logged, and compliant with company policies.

Health & Safety & Compliance

File appropriate documentation on each repair.

Keep upto date with training and changes in industry

Follow legalisation on Health and Safety, be responsible for own H&S, those of colleagues and customers. Keep a tidy workshop and take action if something does not seem correct or as it should be.

Skills & Experience

Experience in garage/workshop as a technician. (essential)

Motor repair qualifications. (essential).

Confident with invoicing, record-keeping, and admin systems. (desirable)

Organised and methodical with strong attention to detail. (essential).

Good communication and IT skills (Excel, maintenance software, etc.).

Full UK driving licence required (D/D1 Licence desirable)

MOT Tester or MOT Manager experience (desirable)

Starting Salary of £40,000+
