Job Overview Here at Orchard we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fabricator/Welder to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating and welding metal components with precision and efficiency, contributing to the production of high-quality products. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong mechanical aptitude and experience in various welding techniques, particularly MIG welding, to develop their skills within a professional environment. Responsibilities Carry out coded welding on structural steel and fabricated assemblies in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) Perform MIG / MAG coded welding (FM1 + FM2) using approved gases (M24) on EN 10025 / EN 1090 CE marked materials Weld material thicknesses ranging from 1mm up to 50mm in all qualified welding positions including PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF (OVERHEAD / UPHILL) Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and blueprint drawings accurately Set up welding equipment correctly, selecting appropriate consumables and parameters to match WPS requirements Complete pre-weld checks and post-weld visual inspections to required acceptance criteria Work alongside welding inspectors and NDT inspectors, supporting MPI / UT / RT activities as required Rectify weld defects and carry out approved repairs in line with WPS and quality procedures Maintain accurate weld traceability, records, and quality documentation in line with BMS requirements Support manufacture of complex one-off prototypes as well as repeat production components Ensure all welding activities comply with ISO 9001, EN 1090, and internal quality systems Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area in accordance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements Work collaboratively with the wider production team to meet deadlines and output targets Identify and report defects, material issues, or deviations from specification promptly Assist with mentoring apprentices or less experienced welders when required Contribute to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives within the fabrication area Desirable Qualifications NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fabrication & Welding or equivalent qualification. CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport. Previous experience in structural steel, modular construction, or off-site manufacturing.
