We're looking for a calm, organised and compassionate individual to join the Bereavement Services team at Buckinghamshire Council. In this varied role, you'll coordinate chapel services, welcome and support visitors, manage service technology, and help ensure every funeral service is delivered with dignity, professionalism and care. About the role As a Chapel Attendant, you'll play a key role in ensuring cremation services run smoothly at the Chilterns crematorium. Working as part of a supportive team, you'll prepare the chapel for services, welcome funeral directors and mourners, operate chapel media systems and provide discreet assistance throughout each service. Your responsibilities will include: Preparing the chapel before each service, ensuring it is clean, welcoming and ready for families. Operating the chapel media system, including music, visual tributes and webcasts. Greeting funeral directors, celebrants and mourners with empathy, professionalism and respect. Checking documentation and the identity of the deceased before services. Remaining in attendance during services to provide support and maintain a safe environment. Preparing the chapel between services and maintaining floral tribute areas. Assisting with the scattering of ashes in the Garden of Remembrance, sometimes in the presence of families. Supporting remembrance events, open days and other activities. Carrying out routine checks and helping maintain high standards across both crematorium sites. About you We're looking for someone who is compassionate, dependable and able to work calmly in an emotionally sensitive environment. You'll ideally have: Excellent customer service skills and experience dealing with members of the public. The ability to communicate sensitively with people who may be grieving. Good organisational and time management skills. Confidence using computers or the willingness to learn new systems. The ability to work independently, use your initiative and remain organised under pressure. Good literacy and numeracy skills. GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths, or relevant experience. Experience working in a customer-facing role is essential, particularly where you've handled sensitive conversations or supported people during difficult situations. Interpreters Required - All Languages Pertemps is looking to expand its pool of professional interpreters to support Buckinghamshire Council. We are recruiting interpreters for all languages to provide both face-to-face and virtual interpreting services across Buckinghamshire. As the majority of our assignments are based within Buckinghamshire, we particularly welcome applications from interpreters who live locally or within easy travelling distance.
