We seek a reliable assistant with a solid dairy background looking to progress their career by assisting with the day-to-day routine and management of a 350-cow herd on a recognised tight autumn block calving, forage-based system. The herd is cubicle housed, with easy-feed grass/maize silage fed as self-feed and in mangers, with concentrates fed in the 16:32 DTL parlour. There is the opportunity for the successful applicant to join a large, well known dairy farming family business, focussing on fertility, quality milk production from forage/grazing, and have an input with the youngstock, with the added benefit of general support from this committed farming operation. We have a contract vacancy for an experienced herdsperson on an 1100-acre family farm near Shaftesbury. This herd of 600 crossbred cows, split equally between autumn and spring calvers, giving 6,800 litres with high components and are milked via a 30 x 60 swing over herringbone parlour with ACR'S and in parlour feeders. Extensive grazing is practiced when possible with supplementary feed supplied. During winter months a full TMR is supplied while cows are housed in cubicle sheds with tractor scraping. The appointed person will be required to cover most milkings to a very high standard, with plenty of assistance as there are always two people milking. We have contract vacancy for an assistant herdsperson/GFW on robotic unit in Dorset. This exceptionally well managed family farm has 140 pedigree Holsteins yielding 12,500 litres, from two Lely astronaut milking units, with exceptional attention to details. The appointed person will be working alongside the farmer and daughter, with duties to include, feeding, scraping, bedding, youngstock work, fencing and maintaining the robots, so must be adaptable with all farm tasks with a can do attitude and have very high welfare attitude to the livestock, also required is an ability to manage day to day while farmer is off farm.
