The Legacy Technology Estate Replacement (LTER) Programme is the largest technology change at DBS in over a decade, and therefore requires robust leadership and support, extensive expertise and excellent supplier management. On behalf of The Ministry of Justice we are looking for a Senior Cyber Security Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract. Hybrid working with 2 days per week in any MOJ office. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities include improving public safety and reducing reoffending by reforming prisons, probation and youth justice, and building a justice system which makes access to justice swifter and more certain for all citizens whatever their background. Project professionals in the MoJ help to improve the government's ability to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public. As a Senior Cyber Security Engineer, your main responsibilities will be: . Operational security and assisting with the design, implementation and development security controls and systems. . Ensure that incidents are detected, prioritised, investigated, contained, remediated and that operational security controls are measured and constantly improved. . Continually evaluate, review and advise on current developments in all areas of cyber security and cyber threats; Apply appropriate security controls to all hardware and software assets. . Proactively monitor networks and systems for evidence of potential threats. . Lead response activities to minimise the impact of cyber incidents, including technical investigation into the root cause and extent of any damage. . Ensure remediation work identified by IT Health Checks and Audits is undertaken. . Provide constant review and improvement of cyber security policies, best practice and implementation. Essential: . An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.) . Proven ability to identify, investigate and remediate complex cyber security issues. . Firewall and network security experience. . Experience working with one or more cloud environments. . An understanding of key attacker techniques and capabilities models, and the various Cyber Kill Chain frameworks. . Experience in securing cloud platforms. . Knowledge in threat modelling and ethical hacking. . Experience working with SIEM solutions. . Basic experience in some Scripting languages. Lead, deliver and support technical design of a product or part of a shared platform to meet user needs and business objectives. . Lead on ensuring high quality of technical design, and adherence to enterprise architecture principles and roadmaps . Build relationships and work collaboratively with Digital professions in agile delivery teams to create VFM solution designs that meet user needs . Support development of the DWP Architecture practice by sharing best practice and reference architectures to ensure consistency and coherence of DWP architecture design across DWP. . Engage with Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Lead Solution Architects and engineering teams to implement the solutions according to agreed and approved architecture designs. . Deliver product solutions and be accountable for product architecture in alignment with engineering. . Identify, capture, share and iterate architecture patterns to ensure consistent and coherent architecture design, contributing to the Enterprise Architecture. . Implement architecture patterns creating reference architectures as real-world working examples of successful architecture design. Essential: . Demonstrable ability to engage with technical and business stakeholders, accurately capture requirements, and translate between business needs and technical solutions. Proven capability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and to influence decisions through proactive and responsive communication. . Proven experience designing systems of medium complexity, risk, and impact, using recognised architecture standards, methods, and tools (eg ArchiMate, UML). Ability to review, assure, and challenge the designs of others to ensure appropriate technology selection, effective integration, and efficient use of resources. . Evidence of designing technical solutions that span multiple business areas, services, or a single large and complex service. Ability to identify common patterns, dependencies, and opportunities for reuse to deliver coherent, scalable, end-to-end solutions. . Strong technical breadth across software, application, integration, data, cloud, and infrastructure architecture. Proven experience with microservices, API-led integration, SOA/ESB technologies, Agile and DevOps delivery practices, and CI/CD pipelines, applied within complex enterprise environments. . Proven experience designing and supporting solutions using cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Microsoft Azure. Demonstrable knowledge of SaaS, PaaS, Serverless, and IaaS deployment models, including cloud networking, hosting, and scalability design patterns and best practice. . Demonstrable experience embedding security into architectural design, with strong knowledge of cybersecurity threats, secure communication and encryption technologies, and identity and access management (eg OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, TLS).
