Immediate start available Salary: £30,000-£35,000 (DOE) Overview An opportunity has become available for a highly skilled Centreless Grinder to join a precision engineering environment, ideally with aerospace experience. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for setting, operating, and maintaining a range of grinding and second-operation machinery. The role requires a commitment to producing high-quality components, improving efficiency, and supporting a zero-defect culture. You will work safely, accurately, and proactively, contributing to continuous improvement while meeting production and quality expectations. Key Responsibilities Grinding & Machine Operation Set up and operate centreless grinding machines - experience with Wickman Scrivener, Ghiringhelli, Cincinnati OR Tschadun grinders is essential. Operate Myford grinders (advantageous but not mandatory). Support a range of second-operation machinery , which may include thread-rolling equipment, drill banks, part marking tools, deburring systems, torque testing machines, depitching presses, and more. Quality Control Perform first-off inspections and in-process checks on components from both grinding and second-operation machines. Carry out buddy checks and ensure all inspection stages are completed accurately. Work to tight tolerances and ensure all manufactured parts meet defined quality standards. Performance & Efficiency Help minimise scrap and rework, feeding back issues and improvements to the Production Manager. Maintain machine performance to support delivery schedules, KPIs, arrears reduction, and parts-per-hour targets. Record cycle times and complete daily machine maintenance documentation. Health, Safety & Workplace Standards Follow all health and safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area in line with company and regulatory expectations. Skills & Experience Required Strong technical background in engineering , ideally with exposure to aerospace manufacturing standards . Proven ability to set and run manual centreless grinders . Confident in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications . Skilled in using measurement tools, especially micrometers , with a solid understanding of precision and tolerances. Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and commitment to quality. A collaborative team player with effective communication skills. Ability to support company goals through consistent performance and proactive input.
