SPEN Field Engineer Location: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Greenock, Dumfries, Scottish Borders Rate: £200 £225 per day (Outside IR35) Contract: 6 Months (with potential to extend) Start: Immediate Clearance: BPSS (or ability to obtain) TechNest are partnering with one of Scotland's biggest providers of SPEN Engineers and currently looking for 6 experienced Telecom Field Engineers to support a major Scottish Power telecommunications programme across Scotland. This is a different opportunity to most, for you to join a high-profile project delivering and maintaining critical telecommunications infrastructure within the utilities sector. You'll be responsible for installing, commissioning, maintaining and supporting telecoms and IP networking equipment while working alongside experienced project engineers to deliver high-quality solutions. Key Responsibilities Installation and commissioning of telecoms and IP networking equipment. 1st line fault finding, maintenance and support. Carry out routine maintenance and assurance activities. Complete site surveys, testing and risk assessments. Produce project documentation and handover packs. Support project delivery while ensuring Health & Safety and quality standards are met. Participate in out-of-hours support when required. Essential Skills & Experience Previous experience as a Telecoms Field Engineer. Installation and commissioning of telecoms infrastructure. Strong IP networking knowledge (LAN, WAN & MPLS). Experience with Cisco and/or Alcatel networking equipment. Experience with PDH, SDH, Microwave Radio or Fibre Networks. Telecoms cabling, termination and testing experience. Excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting skills. Full UK Driving Licence. Desirable Scottish Power Authorisations. National Grid Authorisation. IOSH. EUSR. Emergency First Aid at Work. NRSWA. Experience working in HV Substations (11kV 400kV). What's on Offer? £200-£225 per day (Outside IR35). TechNest Talent is looking for an experienced Technical Project Engineer to join a growing team supporting the delivery of critical telecommunications infrastructure projects across Scotland.In this role, you'll be responsible for the successful delivery of technical projects and the ongoing maintenance of a major telecoms network. Working closely with Project Managers, Network Operations and Field Engineering teams, you'll play a key role in planning, installing, commissioning and supporting network infrastructure. Support Project and Senior Project Managers in delivering telecoms and networking projects of varying size and complexity. Install, configure, commission and maintain routers, switches, firewalls and telecoms equipment. Carry out site surveys to support project planning and installation activities. Perform rack, charger and telecoms equipment installations to a high standard. Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, ensuring customer networks are fully documented during project handover. Troubleshoot technical issues and support fault resolution where required. Attend customer meetings, providing technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle. Produce Health & Safety documentation including RAMS and POWRA, ensuring all work is completed in line with H&S requirements. Skills & Experience We're looking for someone with: Proven experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network and telecoms environments. Strong IP networking knowledge with CCNA-level understanding. Experience working with WAN, LAN and MPLS networks. Hands-on experience with Nokia SAR-H and Nokia NFM-P platforms. Strong understanding of routing, switching and networking principles. Experience working with XTran technology. Proficiency in Microsoft Visio for creating network diagrams and technical documentation. Excellent communication and documentation skills. A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
