In this role the successful candidate will be working alongside a team of multi-disciplined Engineer working on cutting edge defence products. Your role will span the entire product life-cycle from design requirements capture and analysis through to defining the power architecture and designing, building, testing and verifying that the solution meets the customer's needs. The Power Electronics role requires working within the Electronics team to optimise the design through trade-studies, analyses, modelling and simulation to produce best-in-class competitive products. Responsibilities The Power Electronics Engineer will perform, but not be limited to the following type of activities centred on the development and delivery of cutting-edge defence products: Developing electrical power architectures to meet design requirements Leading in the design and prototype of power electronics circuits Using simulation tools to produce models of electronic and electrical power systems Leading component and sub-system selection and manage evaluation activities Define testing, validation and debug of component and circuit assemblies Support to integration testing Creation of power electronics specifications, development and verification plans Responsible for compliance to regulatory standards Contribute to bid and estimating activities Qualifications Degree level qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline. Overview As a Mechanical Architect / Mechanical Engineer, you will, with the support of other members of the team, deliver architectural and detailed design tasks for mechanical systems in the sub-sea environment; specifically, the design, analysis, configuration, integration, test and troubleshooting of mechanical sub-systems within a wider system. As an Architect, the role holder will act as the technical lead for mechanical-related aspects of projects. Responsibilities Mechanical Architect Capture, specify, and manage mechanical requirements across the lifecycle. Define the mechanical architecture of products and subsystems, including layouts, structures, materials selection, weight and balance, thermal performance, shock and vibration requirements, and environmental compliance. Define the Mechanical Integration, Test, and Qualification Strategy. Agree Integration, Verification and Validation (IV&V) methods for mechanical subsystems. Provide design authority for all mechanical aspects of the solution. Mechanical Engineer Satisfy requirement sets through detailed design and development (CAD modelling, drawings, tolerance analysis, materials specification). Produce 2D/3D CAD models and design documentation to support manufacture. Define and deliver test and acceptance specifications for mechanical assemblies and systems. Demonstrate compliance through analysis, modelling, qualification and environmental testing, producing reports and certificates. General (Architect / Engineer) Develop and agree Work Package Plans and schedules, taking responsibility for delivery. Work in a multi-stakeholder, multi-discipline environment, collaborating across systems, hardware, and production. Support Thales colleagues across the lifecycle: Work with Production & Procurement to deliver cost-effective, manufacture and testable mechanical solutions. Collaborate with electronics and software teams to ensure effective integration and packaging. Support preparation of detailed estimates and bids. Support Production by responding to problem reports and change requests. Provide support for trials, environmental qualification, and in-service investigations. Qualifications Minimum HNC/HND in Engineering, or demonstrable relevant experience. Holds or has the ability to obtain Incorporated / Chartered Engineer status Essential skills Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes. CAD modelling and drawing production (e.g. Creo, CATIA, SolidWorks). Knowledge of structural, thermal, vibration, and environmental analysis. Experience with design for manufacture, testability, and maintainability. Requirements management and development. Understanding of engineering development lifecycles. Good interpersonal skills with a proactive "can-do" mentality. Logical problem-solving approach and ability to work in a team environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Demonstrates autonomy and accountability. Desired skills Knowledge of naval/marine platform mechanical integration practices. DOORS or equivalent requirements management tools. JIRA or equivalent configuration management tools. Designing to meet platform-specific EMC, shock, vibration, and environmental requirements. Knowledge of defence/naval standards (e.g. Def Stan, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas). Experience with product-based engineering and in-service support Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards. Experience Strong, relevant experience in mechanical design and architecture for complex systems. Design and specification of equipment housings, enclosures, racks, and structural frameworks. Full engineering lifecycle delivery (Capture, Design, Implementation, Verification, Test, Qualification). Evidence-based requirements compliance. Overview We are looking for Software Engineers to drive forward the Defence sector within Electrical and Embedded Systems. The Software Engineer will play a vital role in the software development lifecycle by ensuring that software solutions are developed in line with defined processes and industry standards to ensure the reliability, safety, and security of software products. Responsibilities Design and develop real-time embedded software solutions. Integrate and debug solutions on target hardware, addressing hardware/software integration issues. Target multiple real-time platforms (e.g., VxWorks, MicroC/OS, Linux, FreeRTOS) using Embedded C, C, C++ Linux, Free Artis, VX Works. Participate in various software lifecycle methodologies. Manage software requirements and traceability using industry best practices. Plan and execute software tests (Unit, Integration, System Level). Develop reusable software solutions. Document all aspects of the software production process according to company standards. Qualifications A BEng/BSc (Hons) degree or equivalent in computing or a computing-related subject, or an alternative qualification with relevant experience. Essential skills Knowledge of embedded real-time development and the hardware/software interface. Understanding of real-time operating system behavior and software requirements analysis. Proficiency in Embedded C, C and C++. Understanding of data communications (e.g., 1553, RS422) and networking principles. Practical experience in real-time embedded development, integrating and debugging on target hardware, and using real-time operating systems. Track record in developing C/C++ applications. Awareness of the principles and levels of software testing. Desired skills Knowledge of UML and Agile development methodologies. Experience in Graphical User Interface design and development. Understanding of software configuration control. Ability to undertake roles beyond software development, such as Software Architect or Software Engineering Manager. Practical experience in model-driven software development, using change management and version control systems, and developing under a range of software methodologies. SC will be required to support this role.
