Job Description The Ultra Engineering function manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, generating highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding and critical environments to meet customer needs. Working in a small multi-disciplined engineering team you will bring your knowledge and creativity to help us develop innovative solutions to complex customer problems. Development will range from early research and ideation, prototyping & derisking, experimentation to full product development. We are looking for embedded development engineers at a range of levels primarily skilled in software and FPGA development with an appreciation of hardware engineering and RF. We are seeking creative people who love to research and build new technologies; people who are keen to continually learn new things. People who understand the current state of the art in physics and technology, and who have a real interest in exploiting the latest developments in the national interest. Essential Skills Software development covering some of the following areas: C/C++, Rust, Python. Embedded Linux. AI and ML. Bare-metal MCU. Desirable Skills We would love to hear from anyone with core skills in some of the following and desire to learn more of the others. For senior applicants we would seek an increasing number of the following skills: Full stack embedded software engineering from device-drivers to GUIs and WebApps. FPGA development (Vivado, Vitis and Modelsim), Digital Signal Processing. Electronic design including schematic capture, PCB design and mechanical design. Radio technologies, including Software Defined Radios, GNU Radio, RFNoC. Blue-sky thinking and ability to define and construct solutions to customer problems. Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual to ensure compliance with Government regulations. Role requirements Essential: Willing and able to obtain, and maintain, DV security clearance (following attainment of SC clearance). Qualifications Degree in an engineering, mathematical or science-based subject or equivalent experience.

CNC Miller / Setter / Operator Based: Tring, Hertfordshire At Ultra I&C's Communications business, we're keen to recruit an individual with proven CNC experience to join our team in Tring. Our ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC Milling Machines to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications, working in our new, clean, air-conditioned machine shop. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have experience in running CNC Lathes to produce precision components. This includes knowledge of programming, setting up, and operating VMC's using CAM software and G-Code. Benefits include a 9-day fortnight working pattern, with every other Friday off. Key Responsibilities: Create and implement machining strategies and action plans, as directed by the Machine Shop Team Leader, to ensure that the manufacturing facility supports the business strategic objectives. Manufacture products and work with engineering to provide input to new developments and legacy products. Work within a small, multi-disciplined team, operating and maintaining the equipment with focus on operating CNC Mills and lathes. From time-to-time work on Milling machines as required Interpret engineering drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances of the finished work piece. Be able to sequence operations, tooling, programming and setup requirements to manufacture components efficiently. Liaise with Quality on non-conformance & suggest resolution activities. Maintain batch traceability on raw material delivered and usage on Shop Orders. Ability to recognize, solve & implement required changes for machining related problems. Work in co-operation with Manufacturing team to ensure product meets the agreed standard. Ensure that production documentation is kept up-to-date, accurate and legible. Manage security of information as defined in the Information Security Policy.
