Marine graduates will follow a specialist pathway. You will work with experts in your specialism to gain exposure within the business area for the duration of your graduate programme. The specialist pathway will allow you to build knowledge and experience leading to a substantive post within the Marine team. The Marine Team is a relatively new function within SSEN Transmission, established just over 3 years ago, to be ready, and indeed be a major part of the "Net Zero" race in the UK. We have an increasing portfolio of substantial Marine Installation projects for at least the next 10 years, including the installation of critical national infrastructure and its on-going protection. The team is building the capacity for "best in class" offshore cable installation projects, putting a team together to manage all aspects of marine delivery, Safety, Logistics, Vessel Assurance, and Survey support throughout the lifetime of the marine infrastructure's lifespan. As part of the team, you will be responsible for the ongoing assurance that we are selecting competent installation contractors and maximizing our ability to engage with the best in the business, leading by example, to execute the projects safely and on budget. What do I need to join? You'll have a minimum of a 2:2 bachelor's degree in one of the disciplines listed above. We'd love you to have some practical work experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSEN Transmission and the prospect of a long-term future with us. We want you to feel confident about what happens next in our recruitment process, which has three stages: Online Testing, Video Interview, and an In-Person Assessment Centre . The role As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio of works, we have an opportunity for an Electrical Plant Engineer to join our Offshore AC Project Engineering team to help drive forward our Island projects and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Our Island projects facilitate the connection to our HVDC systems and include state-of the-art AC plant, grid control and stabilisation technology. You will - Write electric plant scope of works for GIS/AIS plant and equipment, e.g. switchgear, transformers, FACTS and grid stabilisation from 33kV to 400kV - Review and approve primary plant contractor designs through the development and execution phases and attend FATs to support the Technical Authority process. - Promote best practice within the electric plant discipline, bringing your experience to provide suggested improvements in specifications, innovation of technology options and management of engineering risks. - Implement safety by design principles to ensure that engineering and safety risks are adequately controlled. - Support site and operational teams to ensure the quality of installations, with minimal risk to Network security. You have - Experience in transmission level electric plant specification, electrical plant project document review, factory acceptance testing, installation and commissioning ideally up to 400kV, e.g. in AIS and GIS switchgear, transformers, reactors, etc. - A technical understanding of underlying British and international standards, relevant legislation and the implications for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR. - Effective communication skills, you should be able to communicate complex technical issues clearly and concisely - Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders with an appetite for building strong and lasting relationships. - A degree in Electrical or other relevant engineering discipline and ideally be a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards chartered status. Real Time Systems play a crucial role in this transformation by providing the control and operational data needed to manage our network. Network Engineering are part of the Asset Management and Operations Directorate. Their purpose is to ensure that engineering activities for all Transmission projects and business areas are safe, sound and supported. They carry out the Design and Technical Engineering Governance functions for the Transmission Business, ensuring that the design of the network and the equipment used operates safely, reliably and in compliance with the relevant legislation. As part of our journey, we're looking for a Principal Engineer - Transformers to join our specialist Network Engineering team. You'll play a vital role in defining technical policy, influencing industry standards, and supporting the delivery of innovative, future-ready projects across our high-voltage transmission network related to substation electrical plant. You will - Write, maintain and own technical specifications and guidance notes required for all electrical wound plant, e.g. grid transformers, super-grid transformers, HVDC converter transformers, shunt/series reactors and earthing/auxiliary transformers used on the Transmission network and review existing specifications and update them based on lessons learnt from projects and to include development of technology. - As part of the Technical Authority, review test plans to ensure that all technology and equipment selected is adequately tested, proven, validated and review proposed suppliers to confirm their suitability and approve for use on the transmission network. - Witness testing of transformers in manufacturer's facilities and carry out technical audits of manufacturing facilities. - Provide Subject Matter Expert input to design reviews carried out by the Design Authority and provide specialist input where required and verify project proposals are fit for purpose and identify any scope changes required. - Provide technical consultancy services across the SSEN Transmission business, encouraging the development of staff and have a willingness to share your specialist expert knowledge. - Represent SSEN Transmission at industry body events such as ENA, IEC or CIGRE working groups and attend conferences to support engineering development and feedback best practice to our business. You have - A degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline and Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards chartered status. - Demonstrable experience on an expert level in the design, specification and application of transmission voltage wound plant, e.g. grid transformers, super-grid transformers, HVDC converter transformers, shunt/series reactors and earthing/auxiliary transformers. - The ability and experience to technically assess issues and/or problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions and an in depth understanding of the technical requirements for design, planning, installation, operation and maintenance of wound plant. - A detailed knowledge and understanding of a range of National Grid, British and European Standards alongside the capability and experience in writing technical specifications, guidance notes and work instructions for wound plant as well as testing of wound plant. - Experience in manufacturing and testing of transmission voltage wound plant and equipment would also be advantageous.
