Job Title: Business Development Manager - Substations & Renewables Location: Midlands - Hybrid Salary: 85000 + Benefits Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent About the Role We are seeking a driven and technically knowledgeable Business Development Manager to lead our growth efforts in the substations and renewable energy sector. The ideal candidate will have strong industry contacts, a deep understanding of grid infrastructure and renewable energy projects (including onshore/offshore wind, solar, and battery storage), and a proven ability to develop strategic partnerships and secure high-value contracts. Key Responsibilities Identify and develop new business opportunities in the substation and renewable energy markets (transmission and distribution infrastructure). Lead on client engagement, tendering, and contract negotiations for EPC and design & build projects. Develop strategic relationships with utilities, developers, EPC contractors, and other key stakeholders. Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activity in the UK and international renewables market. Collaborate with internal engineering, project management, and commercial teams to deliver client-focused solutions. Maintain a healthy pipeline of prospects and provide accurate sales forecasts and reporting to senior leadership. Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities to raise brand visibility and generate leads. Support bid teams with technical input, pricing strategies, and win themes to improve bid success rates. Required Skills & Experience Minimum of 5 years' experience in a business development or commercial role within the energy infrastructure or renewables sector. Proven experience with HV substations (33kV to 400kV) and a solid understanding of grid connection processes. Strong network within utilities, DNOs/IDNOs, IPPs Understanding of project lifecycles in wind (onshore/offshore), solar PV, and BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems). Excellent negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder proposals and close high-value contracts. Knowledge of UK energy markets and regulations is desirable. Degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline preferred. The Role: As the Electrical Construction Manager, you will oversee the electrical installation works from pre-construction through to handover, ensuring safety, quality, and programme targets are achieved. You will work closely with the Project Manager, site teams, subcontractors, and the client to deliver a technically excellent and commercially successful project. Key Responsibilities: Manage day-to-day electrical construction activities on site. Coordinate with mechanical and building services teams to ensure seamless delivery. Role Overview: The Planning Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning and scheduling aspects of multi-disciplinary utility projects, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and regulatory standards. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to develop detailed programmes that support efficient and safe project delivery. Key Responsibilities: Lead the planning function across multiple utility projects, including the development of new substations, upgrades, and maintenance works. Develop, maintain, and update project programmes using software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project. Support project teams with schedule risk analysis and recovery strategies. Monitor project progress and produce accurate planning reports for internal and external stakeholders. Identify critical paths, resource constraints, and key milestones. Requirements: Proven experience as a Planning Manager or Senior Planner on utility infrastructure projects, particularly in power distribution / substations. Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle from design through to commissioning. Proficient in Primavera P6, MS Project, and other planning tools. Knowledge of CDM regulations and health & safety best practices within utilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to analyse complex project data and provide clear reporting to leadership teams. Relevant qualifications in engineering, construction management, or project controls. Desirable: Experience working with DNOs (Distribution Network Operators) or National Grid Background in HV (High Voltage) projects Membership of APM, CIOB or similar professional bodies
