I'm recruiting for a Lead Software Developer to join a brilliant organisation based in central Swindon, and they're looking for someone happy to be in the office two days a week. You'll be joining a company right at the start of a huge modernisation journey, investing heavily in modern tech and cloud native transformation, as they improve tech used within the business to improve the experiences for their customers. This is a newly created role and they are looking for someone to guide the design and delivery of software used internally within the business as well as by their customers. This role is perfect for someone who loves getting stuck in. They want a Lead Software Developer who blends hands on technical ability with leadership. Someone who can shape how software is designed, built, and delivered, while supporting and guiding the team. You'll directly manage two developers and two testers, with room for that team to grow up to seven. You'll take ownership of the development and technical road map as they transition legacy .NET and PHP applications into modern, cloud hosted platforms. There's a mix of internal systems and customer facing applications, all of which are getting a major refresh. This is not a polished environment yet, and . they're looking for someone who sees a bit of chaos as an opportunity to do something brilliant. Someone who can roll up their sleeves, steady the ship when things wobble, and lead from the front. They want someone who understands code deeply and knows how things should fit together, but also enjoys untangling messy tech and turning it into something clever, scaleable, and modern. You'll often be the bridge between tech and the business, articulating why certain decisions matter, and you'll have the confidence to sit in front of the CEO when needed. You'll mentor developers, work closely with the development manager to promote engineering best practice, and contribute to organisation wide standards and the long term technology road map. You'll still remain hands on, be leading design and development, shaping engineering standards, maintaining quality, driving CI and CD, improving documentation and review processes, and playing a key part in modernising legacy applications for the future. The tech stack centres around C# and Blazor, but they also work with a range of other technologies, so someone experience with .Net technologies but who is happy to be tech agnostic when needed and happy to flex will fit in perfectly.
