Senior Engineer - Newton Abbot Location: Newton Abbot Rate: 470 per day Contract: 10-month contract IR35 Status: Inside IR35 Start: ASAP We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a major infrastructure / civil engineering project based in Newton Abbot on a 10-month contract basis . This is an excellent opportunity for a strong engineering professional with previous site-based civil engineering experience to support the successful delivery of key works while providing technical leadership to site teams. The successful candidate will work closely with the Site Agent , supporting day-to-day engineering operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately, and in line with programme requirements. Key Responsibilities Interpret and communicate technical information from drawings, specifications, and design documents to site teams Provide engineering support across the project to resolve technical queries and site issues Assist in the preparation and review of method statements, risk assessments, task sheets, and site procedures Ensure Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) are understood and correctly implemented, with all hold points and check sheets completed Support the production and management of permits required to safely carry out works Mentor and support Site Engineers on site activities and technical delivery Oversee setting out activities, including verification of points, benchmarks, and calibration records for instruments and equipment Ensure site teams fully understand all setting out and engineering information relevant to ongoing works Assist with the preparation of sketches and technical information for effective site communication Support health, safety, and environmental compliance in line with project and company procedures Assist with change management processes including design changes, subcontractor coordination, and procedural updates Maintain daily site diaries and progress tracking documentation Support procurement activities for materials and subcontract services Work closely with the Site Agent and report directly into project leadership Essential Requirements Previous experience in a similar Senior Engineer / Site Engineer role Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite Good understanding of health and safety policies and procedures Ability to prioritise time-critical work within a fast-paced site environment Excellent communication and stakeholder liaison skills Valid CSCS card Full UK driving licence This role would suit an experienced Senior Engineer with a strong background in civil engineering, highways, infrastructure, or major projects who is confident leading engineering activities on site. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient commissioning of control, instrumentation, and electrical systems within one of the UK's most complex and highly regulated industrial environments. Key Responsibilities Witness and verify vendor testing at works test stage. Prepare plant commissioning test specifications. Conduct early inspections of site installations to support timely system handovers. Execute testing activities during the Integrated Plant Commissioning phase. Identify faults, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions. Coordinate commissioning technicians and support resources. Initiate and manage Field Observation Books (FOBs).
