Due to continued growth and project wins, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join our pre-construction team.
Role Overview:
The Estimator will play a key role in supporting the delivery of competitive and accurate tenders for a range of projects, with a focus on heritage restorations, listed buildings, commercial refurbishments, and new builds. Working closely with the Pre-Construction and Commercial teams, you will be responsible for preparing cost estimates, analyzing drawings and specifications, and liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure successful bid submissions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates for projects in the heritage and commercial sectors.
- Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and other documents to create accurate BOQs and cost plans.
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotations and negotiate pricing.
- Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and support the pricing process.
- Work collaboratively with the pre-construction, design, and commercial teams to ensure consistency and accuracy in tender submissions.
- Participate in tender review meetings, risk assessments, and value engineering exercises.
- Maintain and update cost databases and historical project data for benchmarking.
- Attend client meetings and support bid presentations as required.
- Keep up to date with industry trends, material costs, and construction methods, particularly in heritage conservation.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Estimator within a main contractor environment. This position is also suitable for an Assistant Estimator seeking promotion.
- Strong background in heritage and commercial construction sectors.
- Knowledge of traditional building methods, conservation principles, and materials used in listed buildings and heritage structures.
- Proficient in using estimating software (e.g. Conquest, Causeway, Excel) and digital take-off tools.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- HNC/HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
