We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Youth Justice Officer to join a highly regarded Youth Justice Service within the People and Communities directorate. This is a key opportunity for an experienced professional to make a real difference in the lives of young people at risk of entering or currently involved in the criminal justice system.
The RoleAs a Senior Youth Justice Officer, you will manage a diverse caseload of young people, undertaking assessments, planning interventions, and delivering support that reduces the risk of re-offending. You will also act as the lead professional in complex cases, ensuring a holistic, whole-family approach.
The role involves preparing comprehensive reports, managing interventions, attending court proceedings, and working closely with a range of multi-agency partners including the Police, Probation, education, and health professionals.
Additionally, you will mentor and support colleagues, contribute to service development, and play a pivotal role in maintaining high professional standards across the team.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage a caseload in line with national standards and local procedures.
Complete detailed assessments using the AssetPlus tool to identify risks and needs.
Develop and review intervention plans that address offending behaviour and promote positive outcomes.
Prepare high-quality pre-sentence and referral order reports for the courts.
Deliver and coordinate targeted interventions with young people and their families.
Provide mentoring, supervision, and guidance to junior colleagues and students.
Support service development initiatives and performance improvements.
Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as part of a duty rota when required.
You will be a confident and capable practitioner, skilled in risk management and multi-agency coordination, with a passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve positive outcomes.
Essential criteria include:
A recognised professional qualification in Social Work, Probation, or Youth Justice.
Experience managing a caseload and working with young people involved in the criminal justice system.
Strong assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
Experience in delivering interventions and working collaboratively with partner agencies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A full UK driving licence with business insurance.
