JOB DESCRIPTION AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT.

Job Title: Maintenance Team Member Electrical or Mechanical.

Department: Engineering.

Location: Newcastle.

PURPOSE OF JOB.

Servicing, maintenance and repair of traction and rolling stock, components and equipment to the companies work standards and specifications. Comply with instructions, rules and regulations in force.

Pay: £37.12 umbrella rate.

Shifts: PERMANENT NIGHTS - 21:00hrs to 06:30hrs, Mixture of 4 on 4 off and 5 on 5 off.

Length: 3 month rolling contract but should be long term for the right person.

Qualification: Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline.


LIST OF DUTIES.

Work to the instructions of the Team Leader; undertake any work as required, subject to competence.
Advise the Team Leader of any difficulties encountered.
Sign off all completed jobs on prescribed worksheets, endorsing work outstanding where necessary.
Adhere to commitments outlines and signed for within the Safety Responsibility Statement.
Servicing, maintenance, repair and overhaul of traction and rolling stock and equipment to work standards and specifications as allocated by the Team Leader.
Carry out minor plant and equipment repairs as required.
Fault diagnosis.
Application of basic mechanical, electrical, vehicle building and plumbing principles and skills.
Obtaining, using, caring for and returning all instruments, tools and equipment to storage locations.
Obtain materials from stores/storage to enable work to be carried out.
Operation of plant and equipment in accordance with proficiency certification where required.
Keep place of work clean and tidy at all times.
Liaise with the Team Leader to determine the workload priorities, ensure that the work is being progressed.
Adherence to working instructions and quality procedures, including ISO9002.
Assist other team members as required.
Undertake lower graded work, where competent, to facilitate completion of workload.
On the job guidance of apprentices, trainees and new starters.
Patch painting and associated surface preparation where competent.
Undertake welding, brazing and burning duties where competent.
Undertake air conditioning maintenance where competent.

KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

Successful completion of level 3 NVQ competence necessary to undertake tasks and/or recognised apprenticeship.
Practical ability and understanding of plumbing, vehicle building, mechanical and electrical principles, systems and techniques, including schematics (air, hydraulic and electrical).
Demonstration of ability to successfully complete further competency training as required.
Able to operate mechanical/electrical appliances
Able to read and understand technical and safety related instructions.
Demonstration ability to work on own initiative.
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Good interpersonal skills.
