A highly respected and forward-thinking multidisciplinary Consultancy is seeking to appoint an accomplished Associate Director to lead its flood risk and drainage discipline from the York office. This senior position presents an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional to play a key role in the strategic growth and technical development of a well-established and dynamic practice recognised for delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions across multiple sectors.

The Consultancy has an extensive portfolio of prestigious projects encompassing education, commercial, residential, and infrastructure developments, as well as major environmental and flood resilience schemes. Its reputation for technical excellence, client focus and collaborative working has positioned it as a trusted partner to local authorities, developers and national agencies. The successful candidate will be joining a business that combines the stability of a long-standing practice with the ambition and drive of a modern, progressive organisation.

As Associate Director, the postholder will provide leadership and technical direction to a growing team of Engineers, managing the delivery of complex flood risk assessments, sustainable drainage strategies, and hydraulic modelling studies. They will oversee project design and delivery, ensuring the highest standards of technical quality, compliance and efficiency, while also taking a leading role in business development, client engagement and strategic planning. The role requires a balance of technical expertise, commercial acumen and the ability to inspire and develop others within a high-performing team environment.

Applicants should hold a degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline and be chartered with the Institution of Civil Engineers or an equivalent professional body. Extensive experience in flood risk management, surface water drainage, and sustainable design is essential, along with a strong understanding of planning policy, environmental legislation and regulatory requirements. Proven leadership and project management skills, together with a track record of successful client delivery and business development, are key to success in this role.

In return, the Consultancy offers a highly competitive remuneration and benefits package, alongside flexible working arrangements and a clear pathway for further progression within the business. The successful candidate will be joining a practice that values integrity, collaboration and technical excellence, and that provides an environment where senior professionals can genuinely influence strategy, mentor emerging talent and contribute to projects that deliver lasting social and environmental value.

Applications are invited from exceptional individuals who combine strategic insight with hands-on technical capability and who are eager to make a lasting contribution to a respected and progressive Consultancy at a pivotal stage in its continued growth. Interested candidates should submit a detailed CV and covering letter outlining their experience, achievements and professional aspirations.

This is the ideal opportunity for an ambitious senior engineer ready to take the next step into leadership, shaping both high-profile projects and the future direction of a respected and growing Consultancy
