On behalf of a well-established environmental consultancy, we are pleased to present an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Hydrologist / Flood Risk Consultant to join a small, collaborative, and supportive team. This role offers an excellent introduction to consultancy within the water and environmental sectors.

Our client is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a degree in Hydrology, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to a variety of technical and non-technical projects.

Role Overview:

The successful candidate will support senior consultants in the preparation of:

  • Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs)
  • Surface Water Drainage Strategies
  • Hydrological Impact Assessments
  • Other associated technical documentation

This is a varied role with responsibilities both in the office and on-site, and it will involve travel across the UK, including occasional overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of senior team members, the Graduate Consultant will:

  • Assist in producing FRAs and Outline Surface Water Drainage Strategies for planning applications across a range of developments (e.g. mineral extraction sites, landfills, industrial projects)
  • Collect and interpret hydrological and environmental data
  • Engage with clients and regulatory bodies via email, telephone, and in-person meetings
  • Understand and apply national and local policies relating to flood risk and surface water drainage
  • Use hydrological modelling software (e.g., InfoDrainage) to calculate runoff rates and volumes
  • Contribute to high-quality report writing
  • Participate in fieldwork and site investigations

Candidate Requirements:

  • A 2:1 or higher in Hydrology, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Strong teamwork and time management skills
  • Numerate, analytical, and detail-focused
  • Excellent organisational and planning abilities
  • A sound understanding of broader environmental issues
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (desirable)
  • Previous consultancy experience is advantageous but not essential
