CNC Setter/Operator & Brass Bending Specialist -Wolverhampton


We are seeking a versatile and skilled CNC Setter/Operator & Programmer to join our Foundry department team in Wolverhampton. This critical, full-time, permanent role involves both setting up, operating, and programming diverse CNC machinery (lathes and machining centres) and operating specialized brass bending equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality output, adherence to cycle times, and strict quality standards.

  • Reporting to: Foundry Team Leader

Core Responsibilities


This unique role combines precision machining with specialized brass forming.


CNC Setting & Operation:


  • Set and operate CNC chucking lathes, Vertical Machining Centres (VMCs), Horizontal Machining Centres (HMCs), and CNC Bar machining lathes.
  • Essential experience with Mazatrol controls is required.
  • Set and operate the Unison Bending Machine and conventional machines (Drills, capstan lathes, fly press) as required.
  • Ensure cycle times and outputs are consistently achieved to the correct quality standard and promptly report any failings.
  • Manage program transfers to and from the DNC computer system.


Brass Bending:


  • Operate specialized bending machinery (e.g., brake presses, mandrel benders) to transform flat brass sheets into precise shapes according to job specifications and blueprints.
  • Set up and adjust bending machines with proper tooling and clamping dies based on the required bend profile.
  • Accurately measure, mark, and securely position brass sheets for precise bending locations and angles.


Quality & Reporting:


  • Conduct detailed quality checks against dimensional drawings using precision measuring equipment (verniers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
  • Pass off and log first-off approvals for production runs. Store 'first off' and 'last off' parts securely.
  • Recognize, identify, and promptly report all quality defects and equipment failures.
  • Ensure all completed work is correctly routed to the stores daily for booking in.


What You Need to Succeed (Essential Experience & Skills)


  • CNC Expertise: Proven experience working in an engineering environment on CNC machines, with essential expertise in Mazatrol control systems.
  • Tooling Knowledge: Good tooling knowledge and awareness of the latest machining technologies.
  • Technical Literacy: Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Quality Focus: Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mechanical principles and spatial reasoning skills.
  • Bending Skills: Experience operating metal bending machinery is preferred, but a strong willingness to learn is essential.
  • Qualifications: Possession of an Engineering or CNC qualification is highly desirable.
  • Work Ethic: A strong commitment to safety and quality standards, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
