Key Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with a range of SEN, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH)
- Assist class teachers in planning and delivering tailored lessons that meet individual needs and EHCP targets
- Encourage the development of social and emotional skills through positive relationships and consistent routines
- Contribute to behaviour management strategies and help maintain a calm, structured learning environment
- Work collaboratively with SENCOs, teachers, and other support staff to implement effective interventions and strategies
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Experience working with children with SEN in a school or care setting is highly desirable
- Strong communication, patience, and empathy
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging behaviours positively
- Flexible, proactive, and reliable attitude
- Teaching Assistant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3) are an advantage but not essential
