Job Description
Job Purpose
To work as part of the Procurement Team and closely with an integrated supply chain and internal stakeholders to co-ordinate and manage business requests. Key responsibilities will be to manage contracts and suppliers to maximise customer service and operating performance.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the procurement of materials, equipment, and services essential for shipbuilding projects, ensuring timely delivery, cost efficiency, and adherence to quality.
Key Duties
- Procure goods, materials, components, and services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets
- Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible
- Identify, manage and mitigate any supply chain risks
- Deliver procurement briefs, updates, and reports as and when required
- Assist in cost analysis and contribute to the development of efficient and innovative procurement processes
- Add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of best procurement practice
- Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings
- Ensure compliance to all internal procedures and external regulations
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and production teams to forecast material needs
- Prepare and process purchase orders/contracts, track shipments, and manage inventory levels to ensure timely availability of critical materials
- Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and alternative materials in shipbuilding
- Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
- Where applicable, manage and mentor Buyers in the delivery of key duties which assist the Procurement function
Essential Criteria
- Previous experience of working in a senior Procurement position
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Contract Tendering, Awarding and Management
- Strong Negotiation Skills
- Previous experience of using an ERP system e.g. SAP
- Supplier sourcing competency and knowledge of local and national supply chains
- Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Desirable Criteria
- Strong knowledge of marine equipment, steel fabrication, coatings, propulsion systems, outfitting, and other shipbuilding materials and systems
- Experience of Project Procurement and Capital Investment Contracts
Qualifications
- MCIPS Qualified or working towards qualification
- Degree in a relative Business, Engineering or Manufacturing discipline
