gap technical are proud to be representing this global manufacturing business in their search for a Engineering Manager to work at their facility based near Welwyn Garden City.

As Engineering Manager you will not only lead a team of engineers to provide support for all aspects of the NPI and manufacturing process, identifying opportunities for improvement and defining, implementing and monitoring "Best Practice" methods, but you will also be part of the Senior Management Team.

Performance Objectives

  • Accountable for Engineering functions (Manufacturing, Liaison, Tooling, Projects) and direct reports supporting day to day activities as required including appraisals, training and succession planning within the team.
  • Assist the commercial team with new business requests and will also serve as the technical lead for all operational capital investments. The role will also support the manufacturing operations for improving production process targeting quality and efficiency savings
  • Lead the Engineering function to deliver products on time, within budget and at the required level of quality and manage change to drive through improvements.
  • Manage Manufacturing Engineering processes to control all aspects of component manufacturing including Tooling
  • Provide technical & engineering support for all aspects of the manufacturing process.
  • Develop, implement & Monitor "Best Practice" lean manufacturing processes to achieve Business goals; promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across all areas of the business
  • Improve investigation, problem-solving (5Y, 8D, Fishbone etc) and follow-up of Operational issues to prevent both potential & recurring problems.
  • Reduce the cost of non-conformance by engaging with the teams & carrying out continuous improvement / lean initiatives.
  • Principal Engineering point of contact for escalated Customer and Supplier engineering related issues
  • Establishing a comprehensive and documented set of Engineering data to control and improve the performance of Quality, Cost and Delivery in line with required targets and standards
  • Oversee and support all engineering activities including new product development and introduction (NPDI), process definition, tooling design, and production support.
  • Supports the Bid/No Bid process to ensure alignment of new product to business capability and strategy by producing estimates, technical and manufacturing proposals
  • Effective Project Management - Develops and maintains effective project management tools and techniques to manage and report out on NPDI progress and all other Engineering related projects
  • Ensure the creation, maintenance of route cards, BOMs, technical documentation, PFMEAs, and inspection plans to effectively support manufacturing activities.
  • Leads the planning, justification and commissioning of new plant and equipment through allocation of suitable Manufacturing Engineering resource as required
  • Owns and reviews the technology road map for the site ensuring the company remains current with technological advancements to support strategy deployment and customer alignment
  • Produce & update monthly KPIs, taking actions to achieve/exceed targets.

Person Specification

  • Proven leadership & engineering experience in an aerospace or high-precision manufacturing environment, or experience in bespoke manufacturing with an ability to understand current processes and an eye for detail
  • Build good working relationships always acting as a team player
  • Maintain high attention to detail and process adherence applying a right first-time mentality
  • Communicate effectively
  • Be reliable and dedicated
  • Manage workload and be organised, prioritising where necessary
