Our client is a well-known HGV Dealership with several depots across Southeast of England. Currently they are looking for an experienced HGV Workshop Controller to join their busy depot.
You must have Commercial Vehicle Experience.
Duties:
Operational Management
- Oversee daily activities in the HGV workshop, ensuring smooth workflow and efficient use of resources.
- Allocate work to technicians based on skills, experience, and workload.
- Monitor progress of jobs and ensure timely completion.
- Schedule routine maintenance, MOTs, and repairs to minimize vehicle downtime.
- Liaise with the transport/operations team to coordinate vehicle availability.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all work complies with DVSA, manufacturer, and company standards.
- Conduct quality checks on completed work to maintain high repair standards.
- Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and inspection sheets.
- Ensure all technicians adhere to health & safety and environmental regulations.
- Keep up to date with technical bulletins, recall notices, and regulatory changes.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and motivate workshop technicians and apprentices.
- Provide technical support and guidance when needed.
- Manage staff performance, training, and development.
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Customer & Stakeholder Communication
- Act as the main point of contact between the workshop and fleet/transport managers.
- Communicate job progress, costs, and potential delays to relevant departments.
- Support customer satisfaction by ensuring reliable, timely service delivery.
- Handle queries or complaints in a professional and proactive manner.
Administration & Cost Control
- Manage parts ordering, stock levels, and supplier relationships.
- Approve and verify job estimates, time sheets, and invoices.
- Track workshop performance metrics (e.g., productivity, downtime, costs).
- Contribute to budget control and efficiency improvements.
Key Skills & Attributes
- Strong technical knowledge of HGV systems (mechanical, electrical, diagnostics).
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Leadership and communication skills.
- IT literacy (e.g., maintenance management software, Microsoft Office).
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
