Contractor that specialises in civil engineering works for the rail sector requires a Quantity Surveyor, with the opportunity for hybrid working available, based in either Kent or Essex. Long-term contract opportunity with the potential to be outside IR35. Duties: Prepare accurate cost estimates, cost plans and budgets for civil asset management schemes Price remits from a schedule of rates Provide support to the tendering process, including bills of quantities and contract documentation Montor costs against project budget, identifying potential savings and areas where budget might be exceeded Ensure compliance with company policies, client standards / requirements and all relevant legislation Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers etc, giving commercial support across all stages of the projects Manage subcontractor packages, to include procurement and settling of final accounts Value variations and change control Create and present commercial cost reports for both internal teams and the client Requirements: Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, working on civil engineering projects, ideally within the rail industry. However, a QS with civils experience in the utilities or construction sectors will also be considered. Senior Quantity Surveyor Highways / Asset Maintenance Freelance Outside IR35 Up to £550 per day Minimum 3-month contract Cheshire / North West Hybrid (approx. 3 days office-based) The Opportunity A leading national infrastructure and highways services provider is urgently seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a major highways asset maintenance contract. This is an Outside IR35 assignment for an initial 3-month term (with potential to extend). Interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams. Your primary focus will be to close out claims quickly and effectively, while providing expert commercial support across pre- and post-contract phases. Key Responsibilities Lead commercial activities across the contract lifecycle, from pre-tender through project delivery. Prepare accurate and timely commercial reports and advise senior management on key financial metrics. Manage budgets, cost forecasting, risk registers and change control processes. Oversee contract administration, supply chain procurement and subcontract management. Negotiate and finalise claims, compensation events and final accounts. Provide guidance and support to junior Quantity Surveyors and commercial team members. About You Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in a Quantity Surveying role. Strong background in Highways or Asset Maintenance contracts. Proven track record in closing out claims promptly. Good working knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
