This is a key role promoting a positive safety culture across our Southern Region projects. You ll provide professional advice, carry out inspections, deliver reports, and ensure compliance with legislation and company standards. Key Responsibilities Promote health, safety, and environmental awareness across the region. Carry out site inspections, safety audits, and environmental assessments. Lead investigations, root cause analysis, and reporting for incidents and accidents. Ensure compliance with legislation, industry best practice, and ISO 14001/45001 systems. Advise during tender planning, contract reviews, and subcontractor competency checks. Coach and support site teams to maintain high standards of safety and sustainability. Prepare detailed monthly safety reports and contribute to SHEQT meetings. Stop unsafe practices where necessary and drive a safety first culture. About You Significant experience in a similar HS&E role, ideally within construction. NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma preferred (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate). CertIOSH or CMIOSH membership status. Working knowledge of CDM Regulations, Health & Safety at Work Act, and ACOPs. Strong influencing and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively. Positions are available at offices based in North London . The successful candidate will provide Health, safety, and environmental leadership , offering expert advice, training, and support across various power and electrical projects. Key Responsibilities: Ensure strict adherence to reporting and recording procedures for accidents and dangerous occurrences as required under RIDDOR , following guidance from the SHEQ Manager . Provide specialist advice on health, safety, and environmental policies and ensure compliance with statutory obligations. Monitor health and safety standards applied by contractors, ensuring they meet contractual requirements and company policies. Ensure all site employees adhere to health and safety policies, procedures, and client requirements. Recommend disciplinary action where supervisory staff fail to meet safety responsibilities. Take appropriate action in cases of safety non-compliance on-site. Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all personnel and visitors across operational sites and premises. Monitor the provision and effectiveness of welfare facilities . Promote and encourage the reporting of near misses to drive continuous improvement. Work across various project sites within the UK, as required by business needs. Skills & Experience: Proven experience as a Senior SHEQ Advisor within construction, utilities, or civil engineering , ideally within the power sector . Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective people management and leadership abilities. A proactive approach with a continuous improvement mindset . Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills. A tactful yet assertive manner with the ability to influence and challenge where necessary. Ability to deliver clear, confident, and engaging presentations . Strong organisational skills and attention to detail . Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. In-depth knowledge of health & safety legislation and the ability to interpret relevant laws and regulations. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams . Experience in incident investigation and preparing detailed reports, including root cause analysis (RCA) . Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Qualifications & Requirements: NCRQ Level 6 / NVQ Level 6 / NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety. Previous experience in the power utilities sector . Experience working within live substations . Familiarity with NERS Accreditation and management systems . Experience working with DNOs and IDNOs . Auditing accreditation for ISOs 9001, 14001 and 45001 (desirable). Familiarity with the application of SHEQ in a CDM2015 context (desirable) . EUSR or CSCS certification in General Health & Safety. Strong report-writing skills. Full UK Driving Licence (required). Location Office location: Borehamwood .
