SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Edgbaston, B16 Birmingham
Pay Rate: (Apply online only)
Days: Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
Start Date: 05/01/2026 (January)
Contract: Long-Term, Temp to Perm

Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? A welcoming primary school near the Edgbaston area of Birmingham is seeking a dedicated TA to join their specialist resource base for pupils with Autism, non-verbal communication, and SEMH needs.

This is a rewarding, hands-on role within a well-established team, ideal for someone confident supporting children with complex profiles who need patience, structure, and emotional support throughout the school day.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support within the resource base
  • Support children with Autism (including non-verbal pupils) and SEMH needs
  • Use visual aids, PECS or Makaton (where appropriate) to aid communication
  • Promote self-regulation and support positive behaviour strategies
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external specialists

What We're Looking For:

  • A Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent relevant qualification
  • Previous experience supporting children with ASD, non-verbal needs and/or SEMH (essential)
  • A calm, resilient and nurturing approach to behaviour and communication challenges
  • Confident using communication tools and de-escalation techniques
  • A team player who values consistency and routine
