The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Gardener on a private estate in Marlow. This is a full time permanent role with a salary of 35,000 per year DOE. Working hours are 7.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. Due to the rural location, you must hold a full UK driving licence. The start date is ASAP.
The garden has just been professionally designed and newly built. This means you will step into a fresh landscape at the start of its growth. You will help establish new planting and keep every area looking sharp. As the garden matures, your work will shape how it develops long term.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain lawns, borders, beds, hedges, shrubs, and planted areas to an excellent standard
Support the establishment of new planting, including correct watering, feeding, staking, and mulching
Carry out seasonal tasks such as planting, pruning, deadheading, weeding, and soil improvement
Keep annual and perennial displays healthy, balanced, and looking their best year round
Monitor plant health, identify pests or disease early, and apply safe treatments when needed
Maintain paths, hard surfaces, and garden features so every area stays neat and well presented
Use horticultural tools and machinery safely, and complete daily checks
Carry out basic maintenance on equipment, and report faults quickly
Assist with small projects and planting adjustments as the design evolves
Work discreetly and professionally at all times in a private environment
Follow Health and Safety procedures and correct PPE use
Record work completed and flag any issues to senior staff
Requirements
Proven experience in garden maintenance or horticulture, ideally in private estates or high end gardens
Strong horticultural knowledge, including plant identification, pruning methods, and seasonal care
Experience supporting newly planted gardens and understanding establishment needs
Full clean UK driving licence essential due to estate location
Confident use of horticultural tools and machinery
Good understanding of safe working practices and Health and Safety
Ability to work independently, use initiative, and follow garden plans
Horticultural qualification desirable, but strong practical experience is equally valued
