Despite the title, this is not a traditional consultancy-based electrical design role. It would suit an experienced electrician or electrical professional from a commercial/industrial contracting background who is looking to move into a more technical, client-facing and management-focused position. The business delivers electrical installations associated with refrigeration and retail environments, with the role covering everything from initial site survey and design through to costing, procurement, installation and final handover. Overview We are currently recruiting for an experienced Approved Electrician to work on a secure prison establishment. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out electrical installation works, including containment and fire detection system wiring, while adhering to strict security procedures and maintaining the highest standards of workmanship. Duties & Responsibilities Installation of electrical containment systems, including tray, basket, conduit and trunking. Wiring and installation of fire detection and alarm systems. Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and specifications. Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with current BS7671 Wiring Regulations. Maintaining a safe working environment and complying with all site health and safety procedures. Working efficiently within a secure custodial environment and following all prison security protocols. Liaising with site management and other trades to ensure work progresses to programme. Essential Requirements Approved Electrician qualification (NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent). ECS Gold Card (Approved Electrician). EL2 Security Clearance (essential). Enhanced DBS Certificate (essential). Proven experience installing containment systems. Previous experience wiring fire detection and fire alarm systems. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication and problem-solving skills. Own tools and appropriate PPE. Desirable Previous experience working within prisons, secure environments, MOD or similar high-security sites. Experience with addressable fire alarm systems. IPAF and PASMA qualifications (advantageous). Working Hours Standard site hours (to be confirmed). Overtime may be available. Personal Attributes Professional and reliable. Excellent attention to detail. Able to work within strict security procedures. Punctual with a strong work ethic. Positive attitude and team player. Security Requirements Due to the nature of the project, all applicants must hold current EL2 Clearance and an Enhanced DBS Certificate before commencing work.
