SEN Buddy/PA, Guildford, GU2 A lovely opportunity for a bright, confident SEN Buddy/PA to support an outgoing 16-year-old with Cerebral Palsy. £18.50 to £20.00 gross per hour depending on experience.
About the Client/Child
Tim, with his beguiling smile, is 16 years old and lives with his parents, twin brother and two friendly dogs. He, like most young teenagers, loves Minecraft, and gaming which he plays with his current PA and brother. He enjoys swimming, going out on the train for day trips during holidays and the cinema. He is less enthusiastic about loading and emptying the dishwasher! Tim has quadriplegic cerebral palsy. He communicates with signs and his computer. He can weight-bear during transitions with support (from wheelchair to toilet) and eats independently. A foodie like the rest of his family, Tim would love encouragement from his PA to prepare his own meals. He is also an excellent planner; supporting him to organise his holiday schedule will be a great way to reinforce his independence and autonomy.
The Role at a Glance
Term time, Tim arrives home on school transport at 4.30 pm. After a busy day, he s often tired, so there s no fixed routine. As Tim s PA/buddy, you ll need the skills and sensitivity to read his mood and respond appropriately. Some days he ll be eager to engage; other days, he may not want to join in and can be little stubborn in his refusal. Tim has a few household chores he s expected to complete. On days when motivation is low, you ll use subtle, positive prompting to keep him on track. Dinner is usually at 6:00 pm, and depending on his energy levels, this can be a fun opportunity to involve him in preparing and clearing up. His parents return home by 7:30 pm to take over the evening routine. Holidays are planned by Tim and guided by his PA more information provided when shortlisted.
This Job Would Suit:
Someone patient, adaptable, and proactive in encouraging independence. Comfortable supporting a young person with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and the ability to provide gentle, clear guidance while respecting Tim s autonomy. Most importantly - possess a positive attitude and enthusiasm to make everyday tasks engaging for Tim.
Why You ll Love This Role
The opportunity to work in a friendly family environment where your input truly matters. Fostering independence and confidence in a young person who loves life!
