This Principal Electrical Engineer/Technical Director post will see you joining the Leeds office of one of the water industries favoured consultants. They are close partners with water authorities and other bodies such as the Environment Agency and Flood Authorities, putting them in the position of being able to offer you a wider variety than a constant stream of AMP 8 duties. Within this role you will bring your HV, LV and controls expertise in water, battery storage or similar industries to table, ready to support less experienced engineers and lead on schemes. It's an exciting opportunity to push the current office lead up the ladder, while being supported to take their role. Working alongside the wider Civil and Electrical Design team, the role of the Primary Electrical Design Engineer will see you producing electrical layouts for substations (including AIS / GIS up to 400kV), cable route layout drawings & sections, LV layouts, switch room and control room equipment layouts and site earthing layouts etc. You'll be client facing, mentoring, and keen to innovate. You'll also need to have a sound understanding of typical engineering documents such as, but not limited to, ENATS 41-24, NGTS RES i3, NGTS 3.02.014 RES, NGTS 2.01 RES, NGTS 1, NGTS 3.01.02, BS 50522, BS7430 and a demonstrable working understanding of G81 standards and DNO's approved equipment registers. It is crucial that you are Chartered, or actively working towards it, and able to demonstrate previous experience of primary electrical design with a consultancy, contractor or utility in the Power industry. This will need to include producing electrical layout drawings for substations, switchrooms, control rooms and balance of plant projects that may be privately owned or have elements adopted under G81 by the host DNO including: 11kV distribution networks 22kV distribution networks 33kV switchrooms and control rooms 66kV AIS substations 132kV AIS substations You'll be joining one of the most passionate teams in Leeds that I have had the pleasure to work with, enjoying a diverse range of schemes and have a clear route to senior management. The primary purpose of the Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer role is to lead Mechanical Building Services projects delivered by subcontractors. This role ensures that outsourced designs meet technical, regulatory, and business requirements while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance. The successful candidate will act as the technical authority, bridging the gap between the company's engineering requirements and subcontractor performance. The key responsibilities of the role include : Prescribe the Mechanical Building Services requirements for design projects. Specify Mechanical Building Services aspects in Scope of Work Documentation. Produce estimates and assist commercial departments in the production of outgoing tender responses. Support tender reviews from a technical perspective. Represent our client at meetings with stakeholders and contractors. Provide technical oversight of Mechanical Building Services designs through frequent reviews and progress meetings. Support Design Reviews to ensure that subcontractor designs align with company requirements, industry standards, and regulatory compliance. Design Validation. Conduct independent assessments, technical audits, and feasibility reviews to verify design integrity and functionality. Lead author of design documentation Responding to subcontractor Technical Queries. Represent the Mechanical Services Technical Authority by leading on-site visits and where appropriate, providing guidance and leadership to staff. Conduct site surveys, inspections, and monitor site works. Lead the provision of advice to line management and other key stakeholders, on the implementation and maintenance of design documentation and compliance with relevant codes, standards and legislation. Provide technical oversight to junior engineers. Maintaining complete records and archives to company standards. Required: Excellent understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation and maintenance of Steam & Condensate, Industrial Gases, Fresh Water, Demineralised Water, HVAC, Domestic Water services etc. Knowledge and experience of BREEAM, DREAM, Building Regs Experience of working in a design consultancy and/or experience of working within a contractor design environment. Knowledge / experience in managing a small team of engineers. Good level of computer literacy in a range of digital tools. Knowledge of the design lifecycle Detailed knowledge of appropriate, regulations, legislation and technical standards that are applicable to mechanical services system design. Knowledge of operating within nuclear or other high-hazard Industries. Familiar with energy reduction methods and approaches to decarbonising new and existing buildings. Including principles of building physics such as passive design solutions. Experience of commissioning and post installation evaluation of performance.
