Assistant Commercial Manager

Near Bournemouth

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Commercial Manager to join an award-winning, market-leading structural steel specialist working on a diverse portfolio of complex construction projects.

This role offers the chance to develop your commercial career within a high-performing project environment, supporting senior commercial and project teams while gaining exposure to large-scale steelwork packages.



The Role

You will assist in the commercial management of individual contracts, helping to protect contractual entitlements and support the delivery of projects in line with commercial targets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting Project Managers and Commercial Managers with commercial and contractual matters

  • Assisting with take-offs, material schedules, resource schedules, and cost value reconciliations

  • Supporting the assessment and commercial impact of variations

  • Assisting with contractual notices and correspondence

  • Supporting monthly WIP, cost value analysis, and applications for payment

  • Assisting with subcontractor procurement, payments, and final accounts

  • Maintaining strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams

  • Attending site visits as required

  • Supporting health, safety, and environmental standards across projects



About You

You'll be commercially minded, detail-focused, and keen to progress within the construction or structural steel sector.

Essential:

  • Experience within the construction industry (ideally structural steel or specialist subcontracting)

  • Strong commercial awareness and willingness to learn contract administration

  • Good IT skills (Excel, Word; Project desirable)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • A proactive, team-oriented approach

Desirable:

  • Basic understanding of steel construction

  • Exposure to NEC or other standard forms of contract

  • Degree-qualified or working towards a relevant qualification
