Job Description

We are seeking a Microsoft Purview Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of data governance, compliance, and risk management solutions using Microsoft Purview. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in Purview and strong experience working with security, compliance, legal, and data teams to ensure regulatory and organisational requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the primary SME for Microsoft Purview across data governance, information protection, compliance, and risk management

  • Design and implement Purview solutions including:

    • Data Map & Data Catalog

    • Information Protection (sensitivity labels, DLP)

    • Data Lifecycle Management & Records Management

    • Insider Risk Management and eDiscovery (Premium)

  • Architect scalable and secure Purview deployments across Microsoft 365, Azure, and hybrid environments

Governance & Compliance

  • Define and enforce data governance policies, classifications, and retention schedules

  • Support regulatory compliance initiatives (eg, GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, ISO 27001, CCPA)

  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and risk teams on audits, investigations, and reporting

Integration & Optimization

  • Integrate Purview with Azure services (Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Factory, Power BI, ADLS)

  • Configure automated scanning, classification, and lineage tracking

  • Optimize performance, cost, and usability of Purview services

Advisory & Enablement

  • Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders and leadership

  • Develop best practices, standards, and operating procedures

  • Train and mentor technical teams and end users on Purview capabilities

  • Provide Tier 3 support and troubleshoot complex issues

Required QualificationsTechnical Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, compliance, or security

  • 3+ years hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Microsoft 365 Compliance Center

    • Sensitivity labels, DLP, retention policies

    • Azure data services and identity (Entra ID/Azure AD)

  • Experience with PowerShell and automation

Professional Skills

  • Strong stakeholder communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to translate regulatory and business requirements into technical solutions

  • Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications (eg, SC-400, SC-900, AZ-500)

  • Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid data environments

  • Background in data privacy, legal hold, or forensic investigations
