Location: Flexible location (hybrid working)
Contract: Permanent
?Salary: £80,000

The Director of Commercial and Legal role:

Part of the Business Services and Compliance directorate, the Director or Commercial and Legal is a strategic and influential role at Migrant Help. You will lead the organisation s commercial function and legal oversight, as part of the Business Services and Compliance function, covering commissioning authority/customer relationship management, contracts and procurement, legal protection and compliance, and commercial regulation. You will take ownership of contractual and legal matters for Migrant Help and our subsidiary, Clear Voice. Working in partnership with senior leaders, the Director of Commercial & Legal oversees contractual agreements: interpreting, negotiating and supporting our entry into agreements, and understanding required compliance for legal agreements.?

Key responsibilities of our Director of Commercial and Legal:

Strategic

  • ?Leading on commercial, contractual and legal matters in partnership with senior leaders of both Migrant Help and Clear Voice, to successfully support the implementation and monitoring of the strategic plans for the organisations, providing governance assurance against standards, and operating commercial systems to provider timely, effective and accurate information.
  • Developing and implementing commercial and legal strategies and operational plans, within the Business Services & Compliance function, providing strategic leadership for commercial and legal work, in support of the organisational strategy and in the furtherance of the objects of the charity.
  • Along with Leadership, creating a culture which embodies the organisational values, strategic objectives and purpose of the respective organisations, where the organisation is an ethical, responsive and excellent value for money provider, a professional and fair commissioner, client and partner, and a leader in sustainability in the sector.

Leadership

  • This role encompasses leadership in commercial, contractual and legal matters.
  • Overseeing commercial and legal structures, systems and processes, so that they remain effective and appropriate to the size and nature of our work.
  • Providing excellent stewardship of our resources, delivering value for money in areas under the post holder s control, advising across the organisation to achieve the same.

Operational

  • Leading a team of experts across a range of disciplines delivering key initiatives, including, but not limited to: supplier management, contract management, supplier and commissioning authority/customer relations, delivering commercial, contractual and legal advice, systems and channels for external advice, with clarity of purpose, accountability and compliance with key metrics and reporting requirements.
  • Providing commercial support to new business development initiatives, bids and tenders and helping evaluate future commercial opportunities.
  • Overseeing the review and negotiation of all major commercial contracts, so that risks are identified and mitigated, and that they are aligned with business priorities.

Growth & Change

  • Working closely with the CEOs, CFO and leadership of Migrant Help and Clear Voice, developing effective strategies for commercial and legal matters within the organisation.
  • Developing senior and future leaders and maintaining a succession planning strategy for the leaders across the Commercial and Legal function.

Engagement

  • Managing interactions and building relationships with key stakeholders and representing the organisation, as required.
  • Promoting equity, diversity and inclusion, working with the EDI lead to embed these values within our culture and monitor our effectiveness at living these values.
  • Encouraging and enabling working with clients through our Lived Experience Advisory Panels to coproduce services.

The experience and skills you need to become our Director of Commercial and Legal:

  • Extensive experience in leading in commercial law, contracts or relevant areas.
  • Demonstrable experience managing complex contractual and legal matters at a senior level in line with excellent knowledge of best practice, legal frameworks and strategic approaches.
  • Experience in contracting within government frameworks, including management of change requests and contract management meetings
  • Excellent people management, coaching and team-building skills, able to drive the best performance from teams and individuals.
  • Ability to understand, evaluate and advocate effective and persuasive strategies, contributing to the wider direction of the organisation
