Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Performance Engineer to join a Diesel Performance, Emissions and Validation team within a Product Engineering environment based in Stafford. This is a 12-month contract role offering the opportunity to work on both current production engines and new product introduction programmes.

Location: Stafford
Rate: £50.00 - £51.31 per hour
Contract: 12-month contract (Inside IR35)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Performance Engineer to join a Diesel Performance, Emissions and Validation team within a Product Engineering environment based in Stafford. This is a 12-month contract role offering the opportunity to work on both current production engines and new product introduction programmes.

You will be responsible for delivering engineering activities that develop engines to meet performance and emissions targets, supported by structured test work. The role has direct impact on product performance, compliance, and overall market desirability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate product-level objectives into clear technical objectives
  • Develop and execute test methodologies to evaluate technical performance
  • Contribute to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) during concept reviews
  • Create and report Design Verification Plans (DVPs)
  • Lead diesel engine performance and emissions development activities
  • Specify, calibrate and verify software features
  • Create and optimise engine calibrations
  • Conduct mechanical verification and validation of engine components and systems
  • Perform failure analysis and defect resolution using industry-standard methods
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation and reports
  • Collaborate closely with platform and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Undertake occasional overseas travel where required

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of hardware matching, fuel system optimisation and control system development
  • Experience within an industrial engine or OEM environment
  • Experience using Vector CANape for live engine calibration

Working Arrangements

Flexible working arrangements will be considered in line with business needs. The core expectation is five days per week on site at the Stafford facility.
