Assistant Headteacher

Location: Bromsgrove, Birmingham
Salary: £45,000 £50,000
Contract: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Purpose of the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Headteacher to lead and develop curriculum provision, teaching quality, and pupil achievement across the school. The successful candidate will ensure that all pupils, including those with complex needs, receive a high-quality, broad, balanced, and coherent education that enables them to thrive academically and personally.

This is an Outstanding Independent SEN school supporting students aged , primarily with Autism and associated needs. The school provides a calm, low-sensory environment combined with an ambitious and inclusive curriculum, including GCSEs and a wide range of enrichment opportunities.

The provision is committed to preparing young people for successful transitions into further education, employment, training, and adulthood, ensuring every learner achieves their best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of an accessible and engaging curriculum tailored to pupils with complex needs and SEND

  • Ensure statutory curriculum requirements are met, including effective delivery of literacy, numeracy, science, ICT, and vocational subjects

  • Monitor and evaluate teaching quality through lesson observations, work scrutiny, and pupil voice

  • Use assessment data to identify gaps in learning and lead targeted interventions to improve outcomes

  • Coach, mentor, and support subject leaders and teaching staff, promoting best practice and professional development

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Proven experience of leading curriculum development and improving teaching quality

  • Strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment, and evidence-informed teaching strategies

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and support staff, modelling high professional standards

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, pupils, parents, and external partners

  • Confident use of data to inform curriculum planning and teaching strategies
