Job Advertisement: Quality Control Lead

NLS are seeking an experienced Quality Control Lead to join a chemical manufacturing organisation. The QC scientist will take on a pivotal role in managing the QC / analytical laboratory supporting chemical production and development.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of the QC Laboratory.
  • Lead, mentor, and train QC Analysts.
  • Manage laboratory costs and stock levels, identifying opportunities for savings while ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Conduct precise testing of raw materials, intermediates, and final products using GC, HPLC, FTIR, KF, and titrations.
  • Review and interpret analytical data to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
  • Develop, update, and validate analytical methods and specifications to maintain robust and repeatable processes.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on laboratory equipment, including GCs, HPLCs, and gas generators.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers and contractors for preventive maintenance, calibration, and repairs.
  • Provide technical support to Production and R&D teams.
  • Author and review technical documentation, including SOPs, Work Instructions, and quality policies.
  • Manage quality records, non-conformances, and compliance reports, driving Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring audit readiness and compliance with quality standards.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance laboratory capabilities and support company growth.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or a related life science discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Proficiency in operating GC, HPLC, KF, FTIR, titrations.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting for laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with COSHH regulations and ISO 9001:2015 quality systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and instrument troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven expertise in a QC laboratory within the fine chemical or pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and training of analysts.
