iSQ Recruitment is working with a well-established UK manufacturer of bespoke packaging machinery to recruit a Mechanical Fitter for their growing engineering team. This is a hands-on, workshop-based role, ideally suited to a mechanically biased engineer who enjoys building machinery from the ground up, taking ownership of quality, and using initiative to solve engineering challenges as they arise.

Our client designs and builds packaging machinery in-house, supplying engineered solutions to customers across multiple industries. They have a strong reputation for engineering standards, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement, and offer a stable, supportive working environment with modern facilities.

This role would suit someone who takes pride in build quality, enjoys problem-solving rather than repetitive fitting, and wants to be involved across the full machine build lifecycle from first assembly through to testing and pre-delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical assembly of new-build packaging machinery from drawings through to completion.
  • Build, fit and align mechanical sub-assemblies including chains, labelling systems and weighing equipment.
  • Carry out machine testing, fault-finding, commissioning and pre-delivery inspections.
  • Service, rebuild and support machinery within the workshop environment.
  • Identify build or design issues, suggest improvements, and take a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Complete build documentation and ensure high standards of workmanship throughout.
  • Support and mentor less experienced team members where required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across build processes and workshop practices.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter within a manufacturing or workshop environment (ideally 3 years +).
  • Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2/3 in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Ability to assemble machinery and mechanical sub-assemblies from engineering drawings.
  • Confident using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical fixings.
  • Ability to identify build issues, fault-find, and maintain high build quality.
  • Understanding of quality standards, documentation, and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication skills.
