ROLE: CNC Milling Programmer / Operator / SetterLOCATION: OxfordshireSALARY: Competitive (DOE)JOB TYPE: Full-time, 39 hours per weekOverview:We are seeking an experienced CNC Milling Programmer / Operator / Setter to join a high-precision engineering and manufacturing business based in Oxford. This is a hands-on role focused on programming, setting, and operating CNC milling machines to deliver high-quality components using safe, efficient, and repeatable processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining right-first-time quality, supporting continuous improvement, and contributing to a professional, well-organised shop floor environment equipped with state-of-the-art machinery.Key Responsibilities:
  • Program, set, and operate CNC milling machines across 3, 4, and 5-axis platforms using optimum and safe machining methods.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings to enable accurate programming, setup, and manufacture of precision components.
  • Create and maintain detailed layout sheets documenting tooling, setups, cutting tools, and machine parameters to ensure repeatability.
  • Work independently to achieve high standards of quality while meeting production deadlines.
  • Inspect and qualify own work using a range of measuring and test equipment, completing relevant quality documentation.
  • Support and train colleagues where required, sharing best practice and technical knowledge.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment, adhering to PPE and health & safety requirements.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for time and cost savings.
Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum of five years' experience programming, setting, and operating CNC milling machines (3, 4, and 5-axis preferred).
  • Strong proficiency with Heidenhain controls; experience with Fanuc controls is advantageous but not essential.
  • Ability to work to tight tolerances, typically around 20 microns.
  • Proven experience producing high-precision components and taking full ownership of quality and inspection.
  • Competent in the use of measuring and test equipment (MTE) and completion of quality reports.
  • Experience machining large components up to 2.5 metres in size.
  • Previous experience working with machines such as Doosan, Matsuura, or Mazak.
  • Strong communication skills with a reliable, positive, and proactive attitude.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to support an evolving business environment.
