Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Supervisor to support and lead EHS programmes at a regulated manufacturing site in Durham.
This is a hands-on role combining site presence with strategic influence. You ll work closely with plant leadership and central EHS functions to ensure regulatory compliance, drive continuous improvement, and embed a strong, proactive safety culture across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible, hands-on EHS leadership through regular site presence, inspections, audits, and reviews
- Ensure full compliance with UK environmental, health, and safety legislation
- Lead and maintain site EHS management systems, including ISO 14001 certification
- Develop and implement site-specific EHS strategies, objectives, and KPIs
- Deliver engaging EHS training for employees, contractors, and leadership teams
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Manage environmental permits, water discharge consents, and regulatory reporting
- Oversee waste management programs (hazardous and non-hazardous) and contractor compliance
- Drive a proactive EHS culture through coaching, engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor performance trends and recommend actions to reduce risk and improve compliance
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor s degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Management, Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline
- 5 10 years experience in an EHS, QHSE, or safety role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong working knowledge of UK environmental and safety regulations (air, water, waste)
- Proven experience delivering EHS training and influencing operational teams
- Fluent English (spoken and written)
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Master s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- Professional health & safety or environmental certification
- Experience maintaining ISO management systems
- Understanding of industrial processes and process safety
- Strong data analysis, reporting, and auditing skills
- WAMITAB certification (advantageous, not essential)
