A little more about your role We are seeking a Principal Ecologist to join our growing Ecology Team in Cardiff and work on some engaging projects within a supportive team of technical experts. We collaborate with a range of interrelated disciplines including Biodiversity Net Gain and Natural Capital specialists, arboriculturists, landscape architects, hydrologists, environmental scientists and geotechnical specialists. You will be involved in the following activities: Planning and undertaking ecology surveys including Phase 1, UKHab habitat surveys and protected species surveys (badger, otter, bat, great crested newt, etc). Preparation of tenders and a range of ecological deliverables including; Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, EIAR chapters and Habitats Regulations Appraisals. Client liaison and project management. Consultation and negotiation with regulators and stakeholders. Mentoring junior team members. Helping to nurture an enthusiastic, supportive, and productive working environment. Attending and contributing to regular weekly and monthly Ecology team meetings. Taking advantage of a generous training and career development budget to complete training (in-house and external). What we are looking for you to demonstrate An appropriate academic qualification and/or experience in a related discipline. Experience across a range of Scottish habitats and ideally has experience with securing derogation licences from NatureScot. Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment and writing EIAR chapters. Job Title: Hydrology & Water Resources Specialist Salary: 40,000- 60,000 (dependent on experience) Location: UK (hybrid working available) Type: Permanent About the Role: You'll be joining a specialist Catchment Science team delivering technical services and advice across water resources, hydrology, hydroecology, water quality and hydrogeology. The role will focus on contributing to investigations and models that support water resource planning and regulatory compliance, with opportunities to lead on projects, mentor junior colleagues, and develop innovative approaches. About the Client: Our client works across a wide spectrum of services, partnering with government departments, regulators, the water industry, and industries such as energy, transport, and mining. They are recognised as a go-to consultancy in the sector, with increasing demand for their expertise as AMP8 commences. Key Responsibilities: Contribute to hydrological and water management aspects of WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs. Develop rainfall-runoff models (e.g. GR6J), applying robust calibration techniques. Support wider hydrology applications, including flow naturalisation and reservoir mass balance modelling. Apply knowledge of demand management and water resources modelling tools (e.g. Aquator, PyWR, MISER). Stay up to date with UK water management regulations and guidance. Assess climate change resilience using UKCP18 datasets. Supervise small hydrology teams, mentoring and supporting junior colleagues. Ensure high-quality client and regulator-facing deliverables. Collaborate across disciplines to deliver hydrological inputs into diverse projects. (Desirable) Apply programming skills (Python and/or R) to strengthen project outputs. What Our Client is Looking For: MSc in Hydrology & Water Resources (or similar) and a related BSc. Working towards, or achieved, chartership with a relevant professional body. Strong track record of contributing to water resources projects in recent AMP cycles. Excellent communication skills and ability to produce clear, concise reports.
