Job Description

A client within the Public Sector based in West Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Senior Planning Officer to join their Planning Policy (Local Plan) Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a planning policy environment.The RoleKey purpose of the role: To contribute to and prepare a range of planning policy documents to maintain an up-to-date and effective Local Plan for the District, ensuring a sustainable development strategy that addresses local priorities and meets statutory requirements. The role will also support the implementation and monitoring of the Local Plan through policy advice, performance monitoring and data management.Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to: • Contributing to and preparing Local Plan Documents, Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs), Neighbourhood Plans and supporting evidence in line with the Local Development Scheme. • Preparing evidence for Examinations in Public and Section 78 appeals, acting as the Council's expert witness where required. • Leading on key planning policy areas such as housing, employment, environment, transport or infrastructure, including commissioning and managing evidence base studies. • Appraising development proposals against the Local Plan and national policy, providing clear and robust policy advice. • Developing, implementing and maintaining monitoring systems, including GIS and digital data management, to support Local Plan delivery and performance reporting.The CandidateTo be considered for this role you will require: • Educated to degree level in Town Planning or a related discipline. • Eligible for corporate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) or other relevant professional body. • Significant post-qualification experience in planning policy and Local Plan preparation within a local authority setting. The below skills would be beneficial for the role: • Experience of acting as advocate at Local Plan Examinations and preparing statements or giving evidence at hearings. • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, national planning policy and plan-making procedures. • Experience of briefing Members and presenting complex planning matters to committees and stakeholders. • Ability to analyse and interpret complex data and produce clear, well-structured reports.The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £50 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £40 per hour PAYE).How to ApplyIf this position sounds of interest, email a copy of your up-to-date CV to or call Amelia at Service Care Construction on to discuss the vacancy in more detail.
