George Cox & Sons Ltd are a highly respected, North West based civil engineering and highways contractor with over 75 years' experience. We specialise predominately in long-term framework contracts with Local Councils and Transport Authorities and have a proven track record of delivering high quality schemes. Due to our reputation of working in a safe, cost effective and collaborative manner, we are repeatedly invited to participate in early contract involvement and value engineering solutions.

The Role

This is a part-time (2 days per week), temporary position for up to 12 months providing public liaison for on-going highways civil engineering around Nelson, Brierfield and Colne in Lancashire. The remuneration package will depend on experience and will include a workplace pension, together with accident and life cover after a successful probationary period. The successful individual will also be provided with 35 days holidays (pro rata) for the leave year - sufficient days will need to be saved for the Christmas shutdown.

Key responsibilities of the role and the day-to-day tasks and duties of the role:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Work with Lancashire County Council PR and Communications regarding updates for members of the public and local businesses
  • Liaise with members of the public and local businesses both remotely (emails/phone etc) and face to face to keep them informed of on-going work
  • Support and coordinate with schools regarding visits to the scheme
  • Attend public events regarding the scheme
  • A driving licence and your own vehicle is required as there will be some travel to sites involved.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in public, community or stakeholder engagement
  • Approachable, positive and skilled at building relationships with a wide range of people
  • Good MS Office/ computer skills
  • Good team player
  • Ability to work under own initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence
