Senior Platform Engineer (SC Cleared)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join a secure, mission-critical Home Office programme.

This role will focus on designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable platform infrastructure based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9 and Kubernetes. You will play a key role in ensuring the platform is reliable, resilient, and capable of supporting modern containerised applications within a highly controlled government environment.

The successful candidate will bring strong platform engineering expertise, a security-first mindset, and the ability to help drive modern infrastructure practices across development and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain platform infrastructure based on RHEL 9 and Kubernetes

• Support the deployment and operation of containerised applications across secure environments

• Automate platform provisioning, configuration, and management using modern DevOps practices

• Ensure platform security, hardening, and compliance with government security standards

• Collaborate with software engineers, architects, and security teams to deliver reliable platform services

• Support the transition of systems into secure production environments

• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows

• Monitor platform performance, reliability, and availability

• Contribute to infrastructure design decisions and platform architecture

• Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures

• Support continuous improvement of platform engineering standards and practices

Essential Skills & Experience

• Active SC Clearance

• Strong experience administering and engineering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments, ideally RHEL 9

• Proven experience building and operating Kubernetes-based platforms

• Experience supporting containerised workloads

• Strong understanding of Linux systems administration and security hardening

• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

• Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management

• Experience working with Git and modern development workflows

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

• Experience working within government or highly regulated environments

Desirable Skills

• Experience with container technologies such as Docker

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (eg Terraform, Ansible)

• Experience supporting hybrid or cloud-based infrastructure environments

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tooling

• Experience implementing automated testing or deployment frameworks

• Understanding of secure platform design in controlled government environments
