This role is ideal for someone interested in developing experience supporting pupils with communication needs and working alongside specialist staff in a supportive environment.

About the Role - Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist

You will work closely with teaching staff and specialist professionals to support pupils with a range of communication and language needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language delays, and complex learning difficulties.

This role provides valuable experience for individuals who are passionate about communication development and are considering progressing into Speech and Language Therapy in the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups within the classroom
  • Assisting with communication-focused learning activities
  • Supporting pupils to develop speech, language and social communication skills
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and engagement in learning
  • Supporting structured routines and communication strategies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and specialist staff
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • Passionate about communication development and supporting children with additional needs
  • Patient, nurturing and emotionally resilient
  • Interested in pursuing a career in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Adaptable, proactive and supportive in the classroom

Previous experience supporting children with additional needs, communication difficulties, or autism would be beneficial. We also welcome applicants from psychology, care, youth work or support work backgrounds, as well as graduates interested in gaining relevant experience before further training.
