Day-to-Day
Your typical day as a Building Physics Engineer may include:
- Running energy and thermal performance simulations to evaluate building designs.
- Collaborating with architects and engineers to optimize building performance.
- Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
- Reviewing project designs to ensure compliance with sustainability standards and regulations.
- Contributing to BREEAM assessments, including gathering evidence and supporting documentation.
- Staying up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and best practices in building performance and sustainability.
Responsibilities
As a Building Physics Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting building physics analysis, including energy modelling, thermal performance, and daylight assessments.
- Supporting design teams with performance-driven strategies to enhance building efficiency and occupant comfort.
- Utilizing simulation tools to inform early-stage and detailed design decisions.
- Providing input into BREEAM assessments, ensuring designs align with required credits and sustainability goals.
- Collaborating with engineers, architects, and clients across a variety of projects to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following:
- A strong background in building physics, environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in building performance modelling using tools such as IES, TAS, or similar software.
- A solid understanding of UK building regulations and energy compliance requirements.
- Awareness of BREEAM, with either hands-on project experience or strong theoretical knowledge.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret and communicate technical data effectively.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience contributing to BREEAM assessments.
- BREEAM Assessor qualification.
- Experience working across various project stages, from concept design to delivery.
