About the role
As Behaviour Specialist, you will be the lead practitioner for Positive Behaviour Support at Broads View.
You will work alongside the Registered Manager and leadership team to ensure that behavioural support is proactive, data-informed and focused on improving quality of life.
This is a specialist role embedded within the service. It is not a rota-based frontline post and does not carry line management responsibilities.
Broads View is a specialist residential service supporting adults with learning disabilities and associated needs within a structured, capable environment.
Our approach is underpinned by Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), least restrictive practice, and a strong governance framework. We are committed to reducing restrictive interventions, promoting independence, and delivering meaningful, person-centred outcomes.
We are now seeking an experienced Behaviour Specialist to embed and lead PBS practice within the service.
Reports to: Home/Deputy Manager
Key duties and responsibilities
Functional Assessment & Analysis
- Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA).
- Analyse ABC data and behavioural incident trends.
- Identify triggers, maintaining factors and skill deficits.
- Support development of hypothesis-driven PBS strategies.
PBS Planning & Review
- Develop and update high-quality PBS plans.
- Ensure proactive, active and reactive strategies are robust and achievable.
- Lead monthly PBS reviews.
- Ensure language and documentation reflect PBS principles.
- Monitor and reduce restrictive practices in line with RRN standards.
Coaching & Culture
- Provide real-time coaching and modelling to staff teams.
- Facilitate reflective practice discussions.
- Support Positive Practice Champions within the service.
- Contribute to PBS training delivery where required.
- Embed capable environment principles into everyday practice.
Data & Governance
- Present behavioural analysis and trend reports to the management team.
- Support structured governance meetings.
- Contribute to service improvement plans.
- Ensure behavioural data informs care planning and environmental adaptation.
Skills and attributes
We are seeking someone who:
- Has strong working knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support principles.
- Has experience contributing to or leading behaviour support planning.
- Can confidently analyse behavioural data and identify patterns.
- Understands least restrictive practice and quality of life outcomes.
- Is confident coaching and influencing teams.
- Can work collaboratively with nurses (where applicable), managers and MDT professionals.
Education and qualification
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
- Experience supporting people with learning disabilities/ Mental Health and behaviours of concern.
- PBS-informed training (BILD-accredited or equivalent).
Desirable:
- Functional Behaviour Assessment training.
- Experience working within complex or nurse-led services.
- Understanding of Mental Capacity Act, DoLS and safeguarding frameworks.
Willingness to undertake further specialist PBS training and CPD is essential.
