RLE International is working on behalf of their Essex based Automotive Client, who are currently looking for a Functional Safety Systems Engineer to support their team.
Position Description:
Rate: £29.59 (via Umbrella PAYE) increasing to £38.38 after 12 weeks under AWR s (Agency Worker Regulations)
Our client is seeking a Functional Safety Systems Engineer to join their core team in the Essex. You will be a key player in ensuring complex, distributed technologies including powertrain, infotainment, and active safety meet the highest safety standards. Using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), you will bridge the gap between research and production, turning "what if" into "what s next." As a key member of an exciting team leading Functional Safety activities in Product Development, this role involves working with technology subject matter experts to conduct Functional Safety analysis using efficient model-based systems engineering (MBSE / SysML) tools. Additionally, you will work with global teams to design simple and safe systems that bring advanced distributed technology from research to production. This role promotes technical growth and team collaboration.
Skills Required:
Practical application of ISO 26262 processes, methods, and tools within a product development environment.
Ability to model functions, interfaces, and safety-related behaviours using system modelling languages. Technical Documentation: Strong capability in producing clear technical work products to support audits, safety cases, and program milestones.
Ability to work effectively with global teams across diverse disciplines (Powertrain, Infotainment, Quality, Manufacturing).
A proactive approach to understanding complex system interactions and "safety by design" principles.
Skills Preferred:
Tool Expertise:
Hands-on experience with specific MBSE tools such as MagicDraw or Cameo.
Technical Leadership:
Ability to lead technical workstreams and influence stakeholders across the organization.
Communication:
Exceptional ability to translate complex technical safety concepts into actionable requirements for non-safety engineering teams.
Test Development:
Experience developing design verification tests at the component, system, and vehicle levels.
Experience Required
Strong experience in the development of software-enabled systems.
Proven track record of applying the ISO 26262 functional safety standard throughout the product development lifecycle.
Experience Preferred:
Experience in designing architectures for complex systems, software, or electronic hardware.
Experience in the planning, development, and testing of embedded software. Experience analysing test results and executing verification plans within an automotive context.
Education Required:
Bachelor s degree in electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science.
Education Preferred:
Master s degree in electrical engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
