Job Title: Locum Social Worker - Children We Look After (CWLA)Location: St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council (MBC)Pay Rate: £35.37 per hourWorking Arrangement: Hybrid - Minimum 2 days per week in the officeJob Purpose: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Social Worker to join the Children We Look After (CWLA) team at St Helens MBC. You will play a key role in supporting children and young people in care, ensuring their safety, stability, and positive outcomes through high-quality social work practice.Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of children we look after, ensuring all statutory responsibilities are met.
  • Undertake assessments, care planning, and reviews in line with legislation and local policies.
  • Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships with children, families, and carers.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners including education, health, and legal services.
  • Ensure all children have up-to-date care plans, pathway plans, and risk assessments.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports for court proceedings and statutory reviews where required.
  • Advocate for children and young people to ensure their voices are heard in decision-making processes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with professional standards.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work degree or equivalent.
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Proven experience working within a Children We Look After or Looked After Children (LAC) team.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004.
  • Experience of court work and care proceedings is desirable.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Working Pattern:
  • Hybrid working model with a minimum of 2 days per week required in the office.
  • Flexible working arrangements may be considered in line with service needs.
